LET’S BRUSH UP OUR GRAMMAR

PROCEDURE

1. Warm-up

Brainstorm all words connected with the following key words: sea, Australia, New Zealand, camping, hiking.

Example: sea – ship, voyage, beach, swimming costume, port, wind, dive.

2. Speaking Work in pairs.

3. Listening

Listen to the text and answer the questions.

Jellyfish

Where

there’s water – from icy polar seas to tropical Pacific shores – there are jellies. Some jellyfish live in fresh water. Jellyfish have been around for 650 million years. They were here before dinosaurs and sharks. Jellyfish are more than 95% water and have no heart, bones, or brain, and no real eyes.

Scientists think there may be 2,000 species of jellyfish. They come in all sorts of colour, from pale pink or blue to bright orange-red of screaming yellow. Some jellyfish are transparent. Jellies are also range in size from about two and a half centimeters to more than two metres long!

All jellies sting, but not all jellies have poison that hurts humans. Of the 2,000 species of jellyfish only about 70 seriously harm or occasion­ally kill people. The Australian box jellyfish, or sea wasp, is the most dangerous jelly in the world. It can kill you within minutes. Many beach­es in Australia have kits with special medicine in case it happens to swimmers.

Project the activities for a week tour about Australia. Write down your programme. Then announce it to the other group.
