Lesson 1
Ex. 5, p. 82
I live in Kharkiv. It is a big city and one of cultural centres of Ukraine.
There are lots of cinemas and theatres there.
We have a lot of opportunities to spend our leisure. And i think visiting of cinemas or theatres is a very good pastime.
It’s wonderful to imagine living in the world created by actors or actresses quite easily. We feel active participants of a film or a theatrical performance we watch.
I enjoy visiting theatres because they have a very unusual atmosphere and actors are quite close to the audience.

I’d like to speak about the film called “Ice Age” (2002). The director of the film is Chris Wedge.
I think it is a historical film though it has some elements of the comedy.
We found ourselves to the prehistoric age, when people can’t speak. The Earth is ruling by the Mammoths. At then time appears the danger of Ice Age.
People in this film use pictures to communicate with each other.
The end of the story is very sentimental. Friends bring the baby to his father and go back.
The film is full of humor. The main humor person is squirrel, but it has no communication with the main plot of the film. It makes a lot of funny situations. I think that this film is a real masterpiece of computer graphics and parents must see it with children.

The acting, music and singing were fantastic.

I am a regular theatre-goer so I know the repertoire of our theatre well.
Some days ago we went to our Opera and Ballet House to see ” Nutcracker”.
I like ballet and I like the music of Chaikovsky so I was looking forward to it. I warn impressed very much. The scenery was wonderful, the acting was brilliant the music was beautiful.
I was looking at the stage with bated breath. When the performance was over, we all burst into applause. The actors received a lot of curtain calls and flowers.
I think I got a powerful theatre experience that day.

It was constructed in 1991. Its design, architecture, quality of service attract lots of people. But first of all they come to listen to operas and to watch ballets. The cast is very talented their.
We also can see the exhibitions of our Kharkiv artists in the building of the theatre. We try not to miss them.
Besides our Opera and Ballet House hosts lots of theatre and music festivals.
